*Here’s what Thresholds says about the short story:

“Like doorways and other thresholds, the short story form gives us the sense that we are crossing worlds, and entering new realities and states of mind.  Across the threshold, both reader and protagonist arrive, often together, at fresh perceptions of what it means to be – and feel – alive.”

    Hi Marianne,
Thanks for this! I’ve been writing short stories lately during this stage of my novel, to keep me writing and motivated. I’ve often wondered where to submit them, when they’re finished, so this post is timely for me!

  2. Wendy Clarke says:

Thank you for the link, Marianne. Although most of my short stories go to the magazines, there are some that I think are not quite suitable for that market and I might submit them to competitions. I would be very careful which one’s I’d chose to enter though… never the ones that give no prize except to put the story in an anthology.

  3. Hi Marianne, many thanks for the link to this useful site and list of competitions etc. So handy to be able to find them all in one place! cheers, Jennifer. 🙂

    Hi Marianne,

Thanks for the list, I will definitely check out the links. I am still writing, I’ve nearly finished editing my novel with Anne and have been working on some short stories and will start to plan my next novel soon.

Hope you are well. I am looking forward to reading the next Louisa Townsend novel.

    Best wishes,

  5. Hello Kendra!

Hope you find the list helpful! Great to hear your novel is at the editing stage! Brilliant! And good to hear about the short stories too. Looking forward to reading all! Next Louisa Townsend is still being written … but getting closer and closer to the end ;o)
    Very best to you too!

Thanks so much for spreading the Thresholds word. And with such lovely comments too. We do our best to keep up the good work, and it’s all worthwhile when we see support like this – so thank you!

PS Cheeky plug: Our own competition is currently open for entries, calling for feature essays recommending short stories and authors. It’s perfect for all short story lovers. Especially with a £500 first prize.
