This way to star pupils!

Book Week, Broughton Primary School, Edinburgh

sic itur ad astra • this way to the stars •sic itur ad astra • this way to the stars

I was especially pleased to have been invited to talk about The Blue Suitcase to the primary seven pupils of Broughton Primary as part of their Book Week. Broughton Primary was my old primary school, and it was my children’s school – and my father and aunt went there too!

What a clever bunch of super well-behaved, super bright pupils. We chatted about what it’s like to lose someone close to you, Hitler, politics, Hitler Youth, Christians, concentrations camps, why it’s important to write about the past, book covers and the writing process (among other things).  Without exception the young people were attentive, polite and courteous and asked downright interesting questions, and are a credit to their teachers and the school. It was a pleasure to be there! I’m already looking forward to next year – assuming I’m invited back ;o)
