You may remember a post a few weeks ago about an ex-writingclasses student, Wendy, who’s just started publishing her short stories in magazines. On her blog post today she takes about a new “mind mapping” app for iPad/ iPhone and iPod touch called Total Recall. It looks great – and it’s free and easy to use. For those of you who don’t know, mind mapping is a wonderfully visual way to organise your thoughts – by mapping out your thoughts you can see connections where you never knew connections existed ( this can be very useful for us writers!). If you do download the App, let us know how you get on. Finally, why not check out Wendy’s blog? She’s got lots of useful tips there for new writers – it’s also interesting to read even if you’re not a writer, and especially if you are a dancing fan. Go read!
Hi Marianne.
I gave this a go last night and found it great for idea planning and hot seating answers. on the iPod. and grouping stuff. 🙂 great idea.
Hope your well
Katie.
That’s great to know. I am seriously thinking of getting an iPad, or even an iPod – would you recommend the iPod?
Thanks 🙂
Hi Marianne.
I love my iPod because I can follow the course and read assignment etc from it. and twitter and blogs and forums and make notes while hoovering and helping mum and singing to my fave county song.
it’s easy to use. but It is small and if you have bad eye sight or any thing then maybe an iPad or blackberry playbook would be better.
I wanna get a playbook at some point as a friend of mine said there great and a bit bigger but still portable. 🙂
But yep I would say the iPod is great.
Kind Regards.
Katie. 🙂
I didn’t know you could do all that with an iPod – or the course notes! Wow! I am going to have to get with the times! I think maybe something bigger would be better for me – my eye sight is getting bad, even with glasses I can’t see. What is a playbook???
Hi Marianne.
Yeah I get the most out of my iPod for something small it sure can do many things I also read kindle books on it.
Ha!! Yep I read all the course maternal from my iPod in the morning while having a cuppa the first class app is really good for it. and get my daily horoscopes lol.
An Blackberry playbook is this.

My friend said it great and she does writing on hers when she not at her pouter.
So I am considering it as I too have now had to revert back to me reading glasses lately. ha!!
Kind Regards.
Katie.
Thanks, Katie. This is brilliant -now I know what I want for Xmas – at least I will know after I’ve checked out all the options 🙂
Hi Marianne.
You are welcome. 🙂 oh I love Xmas too.
Kind Regards
Katie.
Hi Marianne
I’m glad that my post on the mind mapping app has been useful to your students already. Thanks for your kind words about my blog.
Wendy x
Hi Wendy,
not at all, it’s always good to find interesting, helpful blogs. Look forward to keeping in touch 🙂
This is a really interesting post. I love mind mapping – it suits the way I think and is great for writers. I’d go for the ipad as the screen is larger and you can link a keyboard to it if needed. Otherwise the ipod is good on the go. I’ve said it before but this is a lovely blog,
Fiona
Hi Fiona, thanks for comment and kind words about the blog. I think I may go for the IPad, it just seems so handy – and it has that big screen ;o)
