Where do ideas come from? Rod Sterling of Twilight Zone fame tells us :)

In this classic snippet Rod Sterling, the creator of the TV cult classic The Twilight  Zone, talks about where ideas come from and what writing is and isn’t – I used to love The Twilight Zone. Anyone remember it?

Do you agree with him, do you think ideas are like tiny items of ozone in the air? And what do you think about what he says about writing?

And for those of you who don’t know The Twilight Zone, here’s part 1 and 2 and 3 of  Eye of the Beholder!

    Hi Marianne.

Well I think it’s all them things.
Ideas can just hit you when your not even thinking or they can come from the darkest day to your brightest memory.

Even from ya dreams, I have to say I think story do come partly from dreams as it’s unconscious mind playing out stuff you didn’t even know you where thinking about.

I do agree its so much harder to put an idea down and make them as great or even greater then what’s in your minds eye.

Although if you have an idea it just takes work to make it dance.

    Hope you are well. 🙂

    Kind regards

    Katie.

      Hi Katie
yes, lots of writers get inspiration from dreams, from Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who famously said the idea for his poem ‘Kubla Kahn or A Vision in a Dream’ came to him in a dream, to Stephenie Meyer, who said her Twilight stories came from images she had in a dream, to Joyce Carol Oates who said her latest novel Mudwoman was inspired by a vision she had in dream!
And, yes, I agree, it definitely takes work to make the idea dance!
      Hope you’re well too 🙂

        Hi Marianne

Nope I haven’t been well of late, but am getting there. 🙂

Yep dreams can make good Ideas, I used to have a way of making Ideas come to mind.

I think the best evil person comes from dreams cos if ya scared when you wake up, the fear spreads onto paper.

I write snip bits of my own dreams down as I don’t sleep that long but when I do I always dream then walk to the kitchen and try making tea still asleep, not so wise! Ha

I hope you are well and all.

Really sorry to hear you’ve not been well. Hope you’ll be fully recovered soon! Yes, a good nightmare is a good place to start to get ideas for the bad guys!
          very best wishes 🙂
watch out with that tea making in your sleep, sounds like it could be dangerous- yikes!
PS: all well here, thanks for asking!

            Hi Marianne

Thanks , yep I will do it not good to wake up just as ya about to step in boiling water that ya poured into a cup in the sleeping world however not quite in the reality. :$

I am glad all is well with you.
            Take care.
