welcome to Orange France

I am on holiday in a wee village in Charente Maritime in rural France for a few weeks. The internet and phone were supposed to be connected for when we arrived. they are not. We’ve been assured by Orange (France’s BT) that they’ll be switched on in the next few days – from experience  we know that can mean weeks, it happens every year – ha ha! But McDonalds have Wifi. So here I am using it!  Okay, while in France, I thought I’d send some pics. These are the hollyhocks in the garden. I love hollyhocks. They always remind me of my mum because she used to somehow grown them in our garden in Edinburgh when we were wee, they seemed so exotic (I can never manage to grow them in Scotland!).

Okay, the weather is overcast today, but at least it’s not raining, so I’ll wait until the sun comes out before taking more photos. And finally, even though on holiday, I’ve not completely stopped writing and thought I’d share this quote with you  – i love writing quotes 🙂  If you have a quote you like, to do with writing or not, be great to hear it. Also any pics from your holidays, or any stories, I’d love to to hear them too 🙂

(And, of course, those of you who leave a comment in July get a chance to win a copy of The Blue Suitcase!)

“Write. No amount of self-inflicted misery, altered states, black pullovers or being publicly obnoxious will ever add up to your being a writer. Writers write. On you go.”

Bonne vacances Marianne! Beautiful photos of the garden (and the Brie!) I am quite jealous. Hope you don’t have to spend too much time in McDonald’s. A xxx

Not about writing particularly, but I like it:

      Hey Sue
that’s a great quote 🙂 Are you going to see the new Dr Seuss film that is out, the Lorax?

    • Marianne Wheelaghan says:

We have found a bar that has WiFi – yeh hey! Altogether more fun than McDonald’s ;0) Thanks for holiday wishes – the sun just needs to come out and stay out – but it has just stopped raining:)

Happy vacation, Marianne! Looks as if you have chosen a most charming place to visit. I was so allergic to hollyhocks when I was a child 🙂

    • Marianne Wheelaghan says:

Thanks Kathy, now it just needs to stop raining ;o) Allergic to hollyhocks? Didn’t know there was such a thing! What bad luck. They grow here like weeds, but i really like, them so that’s okay 🙂
