Hi Louisa!
Yes, on a sunny day Leith is a really interesting place to wander and it's incredible to think just how busy and bustling it used to be not so long ago. As for Trinity House, it's like something caught in time. The house was bequeathed to Historic Scotland by the Master Mariners on the condition that the displays remain exactly as set-out, and nothing can be added or taken away - everything has been photographed and when items are cleaned they have to be replaced exactly as before etc. It's quite incredible!

Excellent post, Marianne! Brought a tear to my eye, feeling homesick! Also, great point about the many writers who suffered from depression -- AND the fact that depression did NOT make them write better. I am so sick of hearing how mental illness and creativity are connected, and then people make assumptions about how one cannot exist without the other!

Hi Barbara,
so glad you enjoyed it :) It can be hard to imagine just how great Leith was. Or that the view from my great granddad's window (in his flat in Portland Place) when painting all those tall ships, is now of The Ocean Terminal shopping centre!
very best!

Hi Belinda,
lovely to hear from you. The good thing about a "tour" is it makes you look at things in a fresh way. I came across loads of things I didn't know about - and what a find Trinity House Maritime Museum is! One of these places caught in time. Dad said it was worth the visit I don't know how many times, it's taken me this long to get round to it.
Thanks again - i.o.u. a pic of Rabbie Burns plus hat ;o)

Love it, Marianne, and looking forward one day to seeing Robert Burns wearing a traffic cone as a hat!

And I agree about walking and depression, one is definitely good for staving off the other. Plus it gives me a chance to chat with my fictional characters. ;-)
